Special train cars for elderly, children

JAKARTA: State railway company PT KAI will provide special economy-class cars for the elderly, pregnant women and women with young children during the Idul Fitri holiday.

The company's public relations head, Ahmad Sujadi, said on Thursday the special railway cars would be available between Nov. 8 and Nov. 13 for all economy-class trains departing from the Tanah Abang and Senen railway stations in Central Jakarta.

Passengers eligible for the special cars are those over the age of 60, women traveling with a maximum of three children below the age of five and pregnant or breast-feeding women.

Officials will prevent passengers who do not qualify from taking seats in the special cars.

Ahmad did not say whether the husbands of pregnant women and women traveling with children would be allowed to sit in the cars. -- JP
