Spain builds helipads in Aceh

BANDA ACEH, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam: A team of Spanish military engineers have just completed the establishment of seven helipads in the compound of Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport to boost distribution of basic needs to Acehnese refugees.

The team coordinator Maj. Jesus Gonzales Laso de La Vega said on Monday that the construction involved some 250 military personnel.

Previously, the team had built semi-permanent refugee barracks, dried inundated areas and provided 20,000 liters of drinking water daily in Lampineung village here.

The Spanish government has also sent heavy-duty equipment, including eight trucks, 10 platform tractors and an excavator, to clean up the city,

The Spanish military is scheduled to leave the tsunami-hit province at the end of March. --Antara
