South Korean national to be deported over fake ID

BOGOR (JP): The Bogor Immigration office plans to deport a 50- year-old South Korean national for violating immigration laws and possessing a fake Indonesian ID card.

Officers identified the suspect as Mun Han Bae.

Mun's ID card identified him as 50-year-old Herdi, a resident of Karang Asem village, Citeureup district in Bogor.

M. Yusron, head of the Bogor immigration office monitoring division, said Mun was currently being detained at the Kalideres quarantine until his deportation papers were completed.

"Mun was applying for an Indonesian passport. In his application letter, he submitted a recent photo and he looked so Japanese. So how could Mun be a local?" Yusron told The Jakarta Post.

Yusron said that despite suspicions, Mun's application was still processed but with extreme care.

"In Mun's first interview with us, he told us that he was from Medan, North Sumatra. But he could hardly speak any Indonesian. He could not even pronounce Citeureup, the place where he is currently staying in," Yusron said.

He added that during the questioning, Mun felt cornered and later confessed that the reason for his entry into Indonesia in December last year was for a business trip.

"But he seemed to have enjoyed his stay here. He said that he wanted to stay in Indonesia for a long time, because life in Indonesia was easy," Yusron said.

"He can be tried in an Indonesian court on charges of faking his ID card and overstaying his visa permit. But we have decided to deport him, since he will be forced to face heavier charges in South Korea."

"The Indonesian Immigration Directorate has blacklisted him. He'll never be able to enter Indonesia again." (24/ylt)
