South Korean ambassador visits Bogor
BOGOR: The ambassador of South Korea visited Bogor police headquarters on Wednesday to ensure the safety of Koreans living in the area.
Kim Jae Sup was greeted by the chief of Bogor police, Sr. Comr. Nanan Soekarna and his deputy Adj.Sr.Comr. Makmun Saleh, and spoke with the two for about five minutes in relation to the widespread anti-American demonstrations and "sweeping" threats against foreigners.
Kim expressed his concern about the incidence of robberies in Bogor, which often affected Koreans, while also inquiring about the reaction of local Muslims to the presence of foreigners.
Makmun said none of the foreigners in his area had left thus far, as Muslims in the area has no objection toward them.
As for the robbery issue, Makmun said that Koreans were not the only ones being targeted by robbers and that many Indonesians had also been victimized.
Official data from the Bogor Police office indicate there are 379 foreigners, including 126 Koreans, residing in the area. The records also indicate the presence of 27 Korean companies.--JP
