South Jakarta mall faces demolition

JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso ordered the demolition of the parking lot at Point Square shopping mall in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, because there was no permission granted to build it.

The South Jakarta municipal administration had sent its final warning on Sept. 15 and gave the developer, PT Menara Prambanan, the opportunity to dismantle in within a week.

"The municipality will demolish (part of) the Point Square building if the company fails to do by Sept. 22," Sutiyoso said on Tuesday.

The administration argued that the developer had no permission to construct the parking lot.

The developer of Point Square on Jl. TB Simatupang constructed the parking lot on a plot of land, which was originally allocated for roads (5,115 square meters) and parks (2,236 square meters). -- JP
