Sound body, sound mind
Sound body, sound mind
I refer to the editorial Rout in Brunei (The Jakarta Post,
Aug. 14, 1999) in which it is stated that we have all been taught
that sports and fitness are important aspects of life and that a
sound body ensures a sound mind. We also have been told that a
sick body leads to a sick mind.
Regardless of whether we won the Games or not, sports,
according to Michael Castleman in his Nature's Cures, may benefit
us. It helps control weight, enhances sexual pleasure, reduces
risk of heart disease and stroke, helps protect bones, improves
resistance to colds, minimizes the likelihood of insomnia and is
a benefit for treating many other health-related conditions.
Despite their loss in the SEA Games, the athletes still gained
psychological benefits. Indeed, it is hard to be the winner in
all events.
