Some shops now open until midnight

JAKARTA: A number of supermarkets are opening until midnight for a few days in anticipation of a huge number of shoppers ahead of the Idul Fitri holidays.

Carrefour opens until midnight from Monday to Wednesday, while on the first day of the Idul Fitri holiday on Friday, it will open from noon until 10 p.m.

Superindo also opens until midnight from Tuesday to Thursday, while Alfa and Hero have not extended opening hours. On Friday, Alfa will close, but Hero will open from noon until 10 p.m.

Supermarkets are quite busy these days as more people go out shopping to prepare for the Idul Fitri celebration. Many of them also buy extra food in anticipation of a lack of supplies in traditional markets, with most vendors leaving for their hometowns for their annual Idul Fitri family reunions. --JP
