Some 20 schools merge in Bogor

Bogor: The Bogor municipal administration plans to merge 20 elementary schools for various reasons, including their rundown condition and a shortage of both students and teachers, an official says.

Head of the Bogor Basic Education Agency Ade Sarip Hidayat said 23 of the 282 elementary schools in the city were in a state of disrepair.

He said that this year the city planned to renovate only 11 elementary schools.

According to Ade, a number of elementary schools in the municipality have less than 100 students.

Without mentioning the current number of teachers, he said that Bogor municipality needed 540 more elementary school teachers. --JP
