Solid waste used for reclamation

JAKARTA (JP): The head of the City Sanitation Office, Subasir, welcomed yesterday a suggestion from the North Jakarta Reclamation Board to use solid waste in its Jakarta Bay project.

He said his agency would conduct a feasibility study as soon as Governor Surjadi Soedirdja approved the proposal.

"The use of solid waste in reclamation projects has already been tested in other countries. We conducted a study in 1990 with good results," Subasir said yesterday.

He said the use of solid waste in the 2,700-hectare reclamation project would reduce the project's cost. (ste)
