Soldiers kill alleged GAM rebels

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Soldiers in West Aceh shot dead two alleged
members of the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM) during a raid
on Thursday in Sekundo subdistrict, West Aceh regency. Soldiers
confiscated a gun, dozens of rounds of ammunition and a GAM flag
from the dead rebels.

Also on Thursday, soldiers seized 171 GAM flags in West Aceh.

The flags were discovered in a small mosque in Sewu
subdistrict, following a report by a member of the rebel group
who recently surrendered to the Indonesian Military, Capt. Andi
Hasrul, a military spokesman in West Aceh, said on Friday. --
