Soeharto's wealth for people: PBB

YOGYAKARTA (JP): The Moslem-based Crescent Star Party (PBB) vowed to seize the Soehartos alleged ill-gotten wealth and redistribute it to the people if it wins Monday's elections.

PBB campaigner Maria Ulfah said the undertaking would be part of the party's efforts to root out corrupt practices in Indonesia.

"If PBB becomes the ruling party, it will not tolerate any form of corruption, collusion and nepotism in Indonesia," she told party supporters.

A recent Time magazine revelation that Soeharto's family have stashed billions overseas should be seen as a challenge to prove the former president's claim he has "not a cent", she said.

"We would investigate the report, and if it turned out to be true, (the party) would seize the money and redistribute it to the people," she said. (23)
