Soeharto's kin comes under fire

YOGYAKARTA (JP): The Yogyakarta Legal Aid Institute has urged Governor Sri Paku Alam VIII to investigate R. Noto Suwito, former president Soeharto's half-brother, for alleged complicity in a scandal involving former Bantul regent Sri Roso Sudarmo.

"We demand the governor fire Suwito from his position as chief of Argo Mulyo village and investigate his involvement in the case," A. Budi Hartono, operations director of the institute, said here yesterday.

The institute alleged Suwito gave his personal guarantee that Sri Roso would again be chosen for a second term as regent if he could provide a letter promising a Rp 1 billion donation to the Dharmais Foundation chaired by Soeharto.

Sri Roso has been temporarily suspended from his post to allow police to investigate the case. (rms/23)
