Soeharto to open Kalimantan bridge

JAKARTA: President Soeharto is expected to open an 1,082-meter-long bridge over the Barito River in April so that traffic can flow between South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.

Governor Gusti Hassan Aman said after meeting Soeharto here yesterday that the 10.3-meter-wide bridge was 15 meters above the water level at high tide and 18 meters above at low tide.

The Rp 98 billion (US$41.8 million) bridge took three years to build. Soeharto said that community leaders in South Kalimantan should find a name for the bridge. (swe)
