Soeharto to open int'l health congress in Bali
JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto is scheduled to open the seventh international congress of the World Federation of Public Health Association in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Dec. 4.
Kusdinar Achmad, a member of the organizing committee, told The Jakarta Post yesterday that about 1,000 representatives of public health associations from 60 countries are expected to take part in the five-day conference.
The conference, to be held under the theme of "Health, Economics and Development: Working Together for Change", will be hosted by the Indonesian Public Health Association and co- sponsored by the World Health Organization, Pan American Health Organization, United Nations Children's Fund, United Nations Population Funds and the United Nations Development Programme.
Kusdinar said that the conference will feature Minister of Health Sujudi, State Minister of Population Haryono Suyono and Minister of Environment Sarwono Kusumaatmadja as speakers.
The keynote speech will be delivered by the director general of WHO, Nakajima, he said.
Kusdinar said that the conference, the first ever conducted in Indonesia, will discuss the latest medical developments.
"Over 140 papers from representatives of the public health associations will be discussed at the conference," he said. (hhr)
