Soeharto to be 'father of integration'

DILI, East Timor: President Soeharto will be honored as the "Father of East Timor Integration" by the local community during a visit here next week.

The ceremony will begin with an official show of traditional East Timorese attire led by the speaker of the provincial legislature, Antonio Freitas Parada.

As reported by Antara Soeharto will inaugurate several projects totaling Rp 90 billion, including the 4.2-kilometer Ibu Tien Soeharto road.

He is also expected to inaugurate the giant statue of Christ located about eight kilometers east of Dili. The statue is the second tallest in the world after the statue of Christ in Concovardo, Brazil. (mds)
