Soeharto stamps get the chop
BANDUNG, West Java: State-owned postal company PT Pos Indonesia will no longer print stamps bearing the image of former president Soeharto, head of the company's philately division Mulyanto said here yesterday.
He said the stamps would no longer be printed as Soeharto had resigned from the presidency.
Mulyanto expects stamps bearing Soeharto's face to increase in value, adding that it was also a "business opportunity" for his division given the stamps marked-up value.
He noted that the company had received many queries from abroad asking about purchasing such stamps.
Some five million stamps bearing Soeharto's image have been printed since 1984 with a nominal value of between Rp 150 to Rp 700. (43)
