CHICAGO: The successor to one of the most famous sports car nameplates, the Cobra, is about to go into production in the U.S.

Just 500 of the 243kW Shelby Series 1 will be built over the next two years and are priced US$100,000.

The Series 1 remains faithful to styling cues of the original 1960s' Cobra and promises "Ferrari-killing" performance with 0- 100kmh sprints in under five seconds from its modified 4.0-liter Oldsmobile V8.
