Smuggling attempt failed at airport

TANGERANG: The Custom and Excise officers arrested four suspects and foiled the smuggling attempt of 4.5 kilograms of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) from China in PT DHL Cargo warehouse at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Wednesday.

The four suspects were identified as Rejo Juan Linggam alias Herman, his girlfriend Jennifer Chang Vui Li, Aripin and his wife Ngatirah binti Minto.

They are now detained at the National Police headquarters on Jl. Trunojoyo, South Jakarta.

Director general of the Custom and Excise, Permana Agung, announced that the drugs had been sent by Wang Ming from Guangzhou, China, to Aripin at Apartment Rasuna Said 10 No. 24F, Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta.

The total value of the drugs reaches Rp 1.35 billion (US$135,000) as each gram of shabu-shabu is sold at Rp 300,000.

The Custom and Excise officers had been suspicious of a package, claimed to be lamp accessories, delivered through PT DHL. The officers checked through x-ray and found out that the drugs were hidden in the lamp. -- JP
