Smuggled garlic to be incinerated

PALEMBANG, South Sumatera (JP): Tons of smuggled garlic recently discovered by the Musi Rawas police precinct will soon be incinerated, Police Chief Lt. Col. Agustiono Dechan said.

The 10.5 tons of garlic was seized during two police raids on trucks on some major roads in the past two weeks.

The first raid, codenamed Elephant, resulted in the confiscation of 2.5 tons of garlic, which allegedly originated from Pekanbaru in Riau province. The second raid yielded eight tons of garlic from a truck en route from Medan to Jakarta.

The smugglers covered the garlic with other goods and sprinkled it with coffee beans to reduce its strong scent, Antara reported. (14)
