SMP 188 wins VP's trophy

JAKARTA (JP): Junior High School (SMP) 188 won the Vice President's trophy for race walking, held Saturday, to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Association of Indonesian Journalists (PWI) and the anniversary of National Press Day.

The SMP 188 was declared the overall champion with the highest score of 472 among 50 groups participating in the race. It also won the trophy in Group B (for male junior and senior high school students).

Fifty teams, in four groups of racing, joined the 10-kilometer walking race, which started from the National Monument square in Central Jakarta.

Group A was for students from elementary schools, B for junior high schools, C for general and D for press workers.

The Jakarta Post, which sent two teams, got trophies for its second and third positions in Group D. The winner in the group was the Press Council team.

Chairman of the National Sports Committee Wismoyo Arismunandar opened the race, while the referees were officials from the City's Sports Agency.

The event was held by the PWI in cooperation with LIPPO bank. (sur)
