Smallest person displayed in Batam

BATAM, Riau: Hundreds of residents of Batam flocked to the My Market Center on Sunday to witness what organizers are touting as the smallest living person in the world.

Suprehati, 8, was put on show over the weekend and her small frame, just 55 centimeters in height and weighing 3.2 kilograms, drew gasps of amazement from visitors.

Visitors paid an entry fee of Rp 5,000 to see the Central Javanese native, originally from Pati, who was put on display after an act featuring magicians and ventriloquists.

Suprehati, according to her parents -- Kasmuri, 52, and Atmini, 48 -- was born premature with a height of 25 centimeters and a weight of just 2 ounces.

When Suprehati was born her mouth was so small that she could not suckle her mother's nipple and was thus fed using a piece of cotton wetted with milk which was then squeezed onto the lips, Atmini recalled as quoted by Antara.
