Slalom race for fun, and funds

JAKARTA: A number of ambassadors and other members of Jakarta's diplomatic corps are expected to take part in a fund raising slalom car race at the Bung Karno sports stadium on Oct. 21, organizers said on Friday.

Roving Insight magazine and the Diplomatic Club of Jakarta, the joint-sponsors of the event, said proceeds would go to a rehabilitation center for victims of drug abuse in Bogor.

The center, run by the Sports Campus Wijaya Wijayakusuma, is managed by former sprinter M.Sarengat, who broke the Asian Games' 100 meter and 110m-hurdles records in 1962.

The two-minute race is open to all advanced drivers, who will fight for the Ambassador's Cup, chief organizer Loreen Neville, who is also publisher of Insight, said.

The secretariat, which accepts registrations, can be contacted on 790-1494.
