Sjamsul ordered to return soon
JAKARTA (JP): Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Bachtiar Fachri Nasution has instructed tycoon Sjamsul Nursalim, a suspect in the mismanagement of the Rp 10 trillion (US$1 billion) Bank Indonesian Liquidity Support (BLBI) fund, to return to Indonesia immediately.
"I have ordered Sjamsul Nursalim to return to Indonesia immediately...And his family have promised that he will soon return to Indonesia after he gets wells," Bachtiar said, as quoted by Antara.
Sjamsul left for Japan on May 30, 2001 for medial treatment following a permit issued by the Attorney General's Office. The permit expired on June 25, 2001, but Sjamsul has yet to return to Indonesia.
The government slapped an overseas travel ban on Sjamsul on Dec. 22, 2000. He was also detained as from April 22, 2001, but his detention was postponed as he was required to undergo treatment at Medistra Hospital in South Jakarta.
The Attorney General's Office later allowed him to undergo treatment in Japan following recommendations from his Japanese doctor, a doctor at Medistra Hospital as well as his lawyers.
