Six top Indonesian guitarists perform on Sunday

JAKARTA (JP): Six of Indonesia's best known guitarists are set to entertain fans at Tanah Airku Theater, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, East Jakarta, on Sunday at 4 p.m.

To show off their prowess in the show titled Jreeeng! are Dewa Bujana, Eet Sjahranie, Tohpati, Iwan Hasan of Discus, Rully Budiono and Kadek Rihardika.

Also participating in this 75-minute show are backup performers Fajar Satria of the Edane band and Ari Ayunir of Potret as drummers, along with bassists Indro R. Hadikoro and Iwan Xaverius both of Edane.

The six guitarists are collaborating for the first time and will play classic/acoustic, electric and contemporary guitars. Their performance will be enhanced by Tanah Airku Theater's special lighting system.

Tanah Airku Theater's public relations manager Teddy A Setiadi explained that Jreeeng! would be the beginning of many music performances sponsored by Tanah Tanah Airku Theater. GIGI and Slank, well-known local rock bands, will perform there in a month or two.

Asked why he chose the six guitarists, Setiadi said, "We intend to be a barometer in Indonesia's music industry, therefore we have to make sure of the reputation of the performers."

Jreeeng! means to motivate other Indonesian musicians to create in-house productions and display skills which can motivate music development in the midst of the economic crisis.

On the formation of the show, Kadek Rihardika will perform with Rully Budiono, Eet Sjahranie with Iwan Hasan and Dewa Bujana with Tohpati "Bontot" Ario Utomo.

They will entertain fans with a range of distinctive styles. Iwan Hasan with his jazzy progressive rock, for example, is known for his "21-string Harpguitar" and Tohpati, noted for his pop- jazz composition album on the Sony label, will play the electric guitar.

Tickets are available for Rp 50,000, Rp 35,000 and Rp 15,000.
