Six students injured in accident

JAKARTA (JP): Six junior high school students were severely injured in an accident in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on Friday evening, a hospital source said.

Linda Yulinda, a nurse in the emergency ward of Muhammadiyah Maternity Hospital, said the six first-grade students of SMP 48 were brought to the hospital by their teachers, who apparently witnessed the accident.

She said three of the victims remained unconscious due to severe head injuries. One of them was later taken to Pertamina Hospital.

The other three suffered fractured bones in their hands, hips and ears.

Linda quoted witnesses as saying that the accident occurred when a truck carrying the students had a tire punctured and turned over on the street. The driver of the truck fled after the accident. (04)
