Six killed in sand quarry

BANDUNG: Six people were killed on Wednesday in a landslide in a sand quarry in Cileuleuy in Subang regency.

Provincial administration secretary in Subang, Aris Sumarna, confirmed the accident, saying that the quarry was managed by H. Atang.

The deceased were identified as Dirja, Rihman, Sehendar, Lili Kusnati, Engkos and Asid.

Locals said the traditional mining site was vulnerable to collapse especially during or after rains and was no longer suitable.

Aris said that the operation permit would be reviewed.

On Monday three people were killed and dozens were injured in a mud slide near Pasir Tukung hill in Majalaya, some 30 kilometers south of Bandung. (25/sur)
