Six karatekas to AMA Int'l

JAKARTA (JP): Lemkari karate school sends six karatekas to the third AMA International Open Championships in Nottingham, England, in preparation for the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in September.

The championships will take place on Feb. 17 and Feb. 18. The Indonesian contingent will leave on Tuesday.

"Lemkari will send three fighters in both the men's and women's divisions. We expect them to continue the gold medal winning tradition," chief de mission Hamami Nata told reporters on Monday.

"We took part in four international tournaments last year and managed to grab gold medals in each."

Lemkari will field senior athletes in the men's division: Umar Syarif in the 80-kilogram class; and Arif Taufan and Isfan Tanjung in the 60kg division. They are also members of the national SEA Games karate squad.

In the women's division, Lemkari will send its junior karatekas: Telly Melinda in the under-20 age group, Meisya in the under-17 age group and Fatimah Azzahra in the under-12 age group. (nvn)
