Six inmates recaptured

JAKARTA: Minister of Justice and Human Rights Hamid Awaluddin said on Monday that six of the 31 inmates who escaped from a children's penitentiary in Medan on Friday have been recaptured.

Police are still tracking down the remaining 25 inmates, he said.

The adult inmates, who were being housed in a hall in the children's penitentiary, escaped the prison at dawn.

Hamid acknowledged that the crowded condition of the prison and guards' negligence had been behind the escape. The prison has a capacity of 200 inmates, but before the escape, 400 people were imprisoned there. -- Antara
