Six found drowned in rivers, lake

SEMARANG: At least three more bodies have been found floating in rivers and a reservoir in Central Java, bringing the number of drowning victims in the province to six in the last two days.

The coordinating center for control, communications and information at the provincial police said here on Monday it recorded the last three deaths in the regencies of Demak, Boyolali and Sragen.

The bodies included that of a 70-year-old grandfather, which was found on Sunday in the Kenceng River near his village of Ngelu Kulong, Demak.

He was believed to have drowned while washing his buffalo in the overflowing river.

The second body was that of Hadi Mulyono, a 30-year old resident from Sendangharjo village, who was discovered floating in the lake behind Kedung Ombo dam, Boyolali, by rescue workers.

He appeared to have drowned while swimming in the reservoir.

In Sragen, another man was also found dead in the Bengawan Solo river at Gedongan village, Sragen. He was believed to have drowned in floodwaters a few days ago.

Earlier on Saturday, three more men's bodies were also found separately in the Babon River, Semarang, and the Wedus River, Kendal regency. --Antara
