Six die in double toll road accident

Multa Fidrus, The Jakarta Post, Tangerang

Six people were killed in an accident on the Jakarta-Merak toll road in the Cipondoh area, Tangerang municipality, on Thursday at around 1:15 a.m.

The six fatalities were Syukur 40; Marto Septia, 62; Wardi, 40; Subekti, 38; Oentung, 36; and the driver Darsono. Five of them were members of the Community of Banten Development Promotion Board (BPPKB).

The accident occurred when an Isuzu Elf, carrying some 15 people, who were returning from a wedding reception, lost control after its axle apparently came apart. The car hit the metal divider on the toll road and rolled.

Syukur died on the spot.

Some of the survivors of the initial accident were Marto, Wardi, Oentung, Subekti and Darsono, who began helping the others get out their damaged vehicle. But as they were working, a speeding truck with license plate number B 9783 CG hit the four and killed them instantly.

Tangerang Police traffic division chief Comr. Ermayudi Sumarsono said that the police were still looking for the truck driver, who fled the scene after slamming into the four.

"We have some useful information from witnesses and we are still searching for the truck and driver," he said.
