Six cars damaged in traffic mishap

JAKARTA: Six cars were damaged in a traffic pileup on the Kuningan flyover toll road in South Jakarta on Saturday at 9:45 a.m.

No fatalities were reported in the accident.

According to a witness, the accident was triggered by a red Kijang van that braked suddenly. The driver of a blue Starlet sedan behind the van managed to brake just in time.

The third car in line, a blue Kijang van, was also able to brake immediately but it was hit by a blue Panther car from behind. The incident also involved four other cars in sequence, a white Panther car, a blue Panther car, a white Timor sedan, and a Royal City taxi.

A police officer at the scene, Chief Brig. Kurniahadi said the accident was caused by driver carelessness.

"They must keep in mind that they have to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles," he said. --JP
