Six arrested over Rp 750m robbery

JAKARTA (JP): Police detectives have arrested five men over their alleged roles in the robbery of imported video compact discs (VCD) players and television sets worth Rp 750 million (US$93,750) from an electronic goods importing firm, an officer said on Thursday.

City police chief of Mobile Detectives (Resmob) Capt. Syafe'i told reporters the arrest took place on April 14. On the following day, the police apprehended another man named Anwar Jasmeini, alias Apin, who it is alleged purchased the goods.

According to Syafe'i, the stolen Visonic VCD players and TV sets were imported form China by PT Gita Bahari.

"The imported goods of PT Gita Bahari were being transported in a container truck on Feb. 1 when the robbery occurred," Syafe'i said.

The five suspects include men assigned to drive the container truck.

Syafe'i gave no details on the arrest but said that the first suspect was arrested at his residence in Kamurang, Bogor, at about 7 a.m. on April 14.

The VCD players were sold for Rp 125,000 and the TV sets for Rp 800,000. (ylt)
