Single identity number launched

JAKARTA (JP): State-owned insurance company PT Jamsostek signed an agreement on Friday with state-owned health insurance firm PT Askes and six banks to provide a single identity number facility for their customers as part of efforts to improve services.

With the agreement, some 26 million workers participating in Jamsostek's social security programs, 3.6 million civil servants covered by Askes, and millions of bank customers and employees will have a single identity number in their membership cards, saving accounts, credit cards and ATM (automated teller machine) cards.

The six state and private banks were Bank Mandiri, Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Bank Bukopin, Bank Muamalat and Bank Syariah Mandiri.

State Minister of State Enterprises Sugiharto, who witnessed the signing ceremony, said the single identity number facility would be integrated with the government-sponsored program to issue single identity cards for people nationwide. --JP
