Singer's husband faces 15 months
JAKARTA: State prosecutors have recommended that the South Jakarta District Court sentence Edwin Nicolaas Rondonuwu, husband of noted singer Nur Afni Octavia, to 15 months' imprisonment for attacking her last year.
According to prosecutors, the defendant, a former host on the state-owned television station TVRI, was convicted for assaulting his wife during a birthday party on Oct. 25, 2001 in her residence in Cilandak, South Jakarta.
As a result of the third and latest attack, the singer suffered severe injuries to her eyes, nose, and the back of her skull, causing a cerebral contusion.
Since their marriage on Oct. 27, 2000, Edwin has violently attacked Nur Afni on three occasions, prosecutors said.
In December 2000, Edwin first assaulted Nur Afni, choking her, according to prosecutors.
The second assault took place in early 2001, prosecutors said, when he spat on her, and cursed her. -- JP
