Singer accused of defamation

JAKARTA: Singer of the popular song Kopi Dangdut Fahmi
Shahab bin Abdullah Shahab was reported to police by his dancer
ex-wife on Friday for alleged defamation and forgery of divorce
documents.

Dewi Satriana Handayani, 30, told reporters at city police
headquarters that in an interview with a private television
station, Fahmi said he had divorced her because he had been
deceived.

"Fahmi told the interviewer that he had been cheated as I was
pregnant before we got married in 1997, and that I had spread
iodine solution Betadine on our bed on our first night to give
him the impression that I was still a virgin," Dewi, who is
Fahmi's fourth wife, said.

Dewi, the mother of two children, said that in 1998 Fahmi told
her to leave the house in the Ragunan area of South Jakarta after
a prolonged quarrel between the two.

Dewi said she was still awaiting the decision from the East
Jakarta Islamic Court to legalize her divorced status.-JP
