Singaporeans hurt by trees

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Five Singaporeans were hurt Friday when several trees fell on them near the Singanggila Bayan waterfall in West Lombok, Antara reported. Two of them had to be treated at Mataram General Hospital, the news agency said.

They were identified as Teh Lay Wah, 31, who sustained head and wrist injuries and Koay Phail Hooi, 27, who suffered a head injury.

The other three tourists were discharged after being treated at the hospital. Their identities were Koh Tong Pok, 25, Ng Meng Ngan, 27 and Tang Sin Yang Samuel, 27.

Dr. Mendera, who treated them, said the incident happened while the tourists were taking pictures near the waterfall.

Several trees above them suddenly fell, believed to have been caused by a landslide, he said. Their guide tried to warn the tourists, but his voice was lost in the roar of the waterfall. (emb)
