Singaporean dies after falling from 32nd floor

A Singaporean citizen was found dead on Monday at about 11 p.m. after falling from the 32nd floor of his Puri Casablanca Apartment in South Jakarta.

Tebet Police subprecinct officers identified the dead man as Peter Soh, the president of brokerage house DBS Vickers Securities.

Police are currently investigating the course of events that led to his death.

Tebet Police chief Comr. Agus Irianto said that the victim's maid, Jasem, told police investigators that she last saw Soh on late Monday sitting on the balcony with medicine from his doctor and a can of beer. The next time she looked, he had disappeared.

The maid, who had been working for the Singaporean for four years, said that Soh, who was in his 40s, had been receiving medical treatment for severe headaches for the last week.

One of the victim's colleagues was quoted by the Detikcom news portal as saying it was unlikely that Soh had killed himself.

"I don't think he intentionally jumped. He must have accidentally fallen from the balcony after suffering a seizure of some sort. He's had a stroke problem," said the colleague, a broker, while requesting anonymity.

The victim was known as a successful and resourceful broker by his business partners.

DBS Vickers Securities is expected to make an official statement on Wednesday.

Soh is survived by a wife and four children. They live in Singapore. -- JP
