Silk Air to Balikpapan

JAKARTA (JP): National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia in cooperation with Singapore's Silk Air will link Balikpapan in East Kalimantan and Singapore twice a week with a 78-seat Fokker 70 aircraft service.

Garuda said here yesterday the service would start on June 2. The service is a result of a tourism cooperation agreement signed by Indonesia and Singapore in Yogyakarta in late 1994.

The direct service will operate on Mondays and Fridays.

Passengers currently going from Singapore to Balikpapan and back have to take a connecting flight in Jakarta, Denpasar or Surabaya.

Silk Air flies to several Indonesian cities including Jakarta, Ujungpandang and Manado. (icn)
