Siemens phone sales double

JAKARTA (JP): Brisk demand for Siemens latest cell phone products, has led sales of Siemens mobile phones to double to 22,000 units during the nine months ending in September, the local distributor said on Friday.

General manager of PT Dian Graha Elektrika Robby Darmasetiawan said that with the sales achievement, Siemens now controlled 13 percent of the cell phone market, and had become the third most popular brand in the country.

"It is quite an achievement because Siemens joined the mobile phone market only five years ago, with a conservative ad campaign," Robby said, adding that Siemens would launch three new products next year to further strengthen its market position.

He said the new hand sets would be equipped with Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) that will enable users to access the Internet.

He said sales of Siemens mobile phones were expected to increase by 30 percent next year, and to hold 15 percent of the market share. (06)
