Siemens launches GPRS system
JAKARTA (JP): German-based mobile communications provider Siemens Indonesia introduced on Thursday a new cellular telephone technology, called the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS).
The company said the GPRS technology, which was demonstrated at the Indonesian International Telecommunications, Media & Information Technology expo, will enable mobile telephone users to transmit and receive data through their phones four times faster than the speed provided by GSM technology.
Siemens said its new GPRS-based mobile telephones would be available on the local market by the end of this year. (cst)
