SIA offers scholarships
DENPASAR, Bali: Singapore Airlines (SIA) and its partners, nine travel agents and 11 cargo agents, are offering scholarships for local well-performing high school students.
In a ceremony here on Wednesday, SIA manager in Bali Andrew Chee said that free tuition would be given to those wishing to study at a tourism institute or polytechnic.
"Priority will be given to those living in areas where the tourism industry has yet to be properly developed," he said.
Andrew said the scholarships totaled Rp 20 million, with half of the amount coming from the Singaporean flag carrier.
Four students will be selected for the 2000-2001 school year, but in the next two years the scholarships will be given only to two students for three years. Each selected student will receive Rp 2.5 million per year.
Also in the ceremony, 16 local girls were sent for stewardess training in Singapore. (zen/sur)
