SIA gives scholarship

JAKARTA (JP): Singapore Airlines and the Wipara Foundation awarded on Saturday scholarships to 235 eligible students.

Singapore Airlines General Manager Indonesia Vijendran Alfreds said that the scholarship program was aimed at helping to ease the impact of the economic crisis which has affected students' ability to continue their studies.

"We were very sad when we heard that some parents were having difficulty sending children to school. So we thought that we could do a little bit to help. I hope with these scholarships we can help the students to continue their studies amid the current crisis," he said.

The scholarships were given to 82 elementary, 68 junior and senior high school and 22 university students whose parents are low-ranking employees of the directorate general of air communications of the communications ministry. (gis)
