Shops gear up for Imlek

TANGERANG (JP): Shops and business centers gear up for Chinese New Year celebrations next Saturday, displaying ornaments, cookies, cards and clothes symbolizing the Sin Cia fiesta.

Ethnic Chinese shoppers were seen along Jl. Ki Samaun near the Vihara Padumuttara Buddhist temple here on Wednesday, as sidewalk vendors offered various merchandise.

"We are also gathering donations for needy people, in the form of staple food packages and Ang Paw cash between Rp 30,000 and Rp 50,000 each," said Tagara Widjaja, the temple foundation advisor. (41/edt)
