Shop owners file protest

JAKARTA (JP): Shop owners at the Glodok Plaza shopping complex in West Jakarta filed a protest on Friday against the complex's management, PT Multi Plaza Properties (PT MPP), over parking, sanitation and security fees.

An executive of the Association of Glodok Plaza Shop and Shop- House Owners, Hendrik, was quoted by Suara Pembaruan daily on Sunday as saying the shop owners would soon take over the management of the parking because PT MPP had repeatedly refused to meet the owners' demands.

Also, the shop owners already have building use certificates, meaning they also have authority over the parking lots at the plaza, Hendrik said.

He said the shop owners had for more than 10 years obeyed the company's rules, although the parking fees they were charged were burdensome.

A shop owner with one car, for example, is charged Rp 75,000 per month by PT MPP. For two cars, the fee is Rp 135,000 per month.

"The parking fee for a motorcycle is also set at between Rp 60,000 per month for one motorcycle and Rp 135,000 for two," he said.

Monthly sanitation and security fees are set by PT MPP at Rp 125,000 per shop.

The traders said they had reported the case to the West Jakarta Mayoralty Office, which has supported in principal the shop owners' plan to take over the management of the parking lots.(ind)
