Shooting victim asks for help

JAKARTA (JP): A victim of last Friday's violence, Jumadi, 14, who is still undergoing treatment at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, needs financial help to cover his hospital fees, a social activist said on Tuesday.

Jumadi, a street singer, was shot on Jl. Sudirman during a clash between students and security personnel following a student rally protesting the state security bill. Doctors had to remove Jumadi's left lung, which was punctured by a bullet.

Jumadi is recuperating, although he is still in the intensive care unit, doctors said on Tuesday.

"So far the non-governmental organization Ikatan Gerakan Anak Bangsa (IGAB) has paid for his medicines, amounting to Rp 1.1 million (US$133), but this does not include the operation and hospital room fee," an IGAB activist said on Tuesday.

According to a hospital spokesman, Jumadi's family could officially ask the hospital for free treatment. (04)
