Shoe slipup
On April 17, 1997 your paper published an article headlined
Shoe producers blame govt for their inefficiency by (pwn).
Since the contents substantiated the arguments used in our
feasibility study for a tannery in Indonesia, we mailed a copy to
our contact in Singapore who was already in preliminary talks
with potential investors. The reaction was "If Indonesia produces
(as claimed in your article) 1.26 million pairs of shoes at a
cost of US$2.8 billion, the average cost per pair is $2,222.22."
This unfortunate clerical or printing error caused the parties
involved to cast doubt on all our facts and figures stated in our
feasibility study.
We approached Aprisindo for clarification but got no reply to
our facsimile sent on May 2,
We hope you are in a position to rectify this discrepancy, as
nobody else can provide a verified correction or authentic
figures.

Note: The sentence should have read Indonesia produces 1.26
million pairs of shoes a year with an investment of US$2.8
billion." You are actually referring to information in the
article with the heading Local shoe makers urged to shift
business strategy" by (das), not the one mentioned in your
letter. Thank you for your input.
