Shoe pirates arrested
JAKARTA (JP): Bogor Police have arrested two people for illegally producing shoes bearing the brandnames Nike, Fila and Adidas.
Bogor Police deputy chief, Com. Damisnur, told Antara on Tuesday that the suspects, Abu Djamil, 27, and Kusmaid Umar, 42, were arrested during a raid at their factory in Gunung Batu, West Bogor, on Monday at about 8 p.m.
The raid was conducted upon information provided by local members of the public.
The police also confiscated hundreds of pairs of shoes bearing a number of international brandnames, including Nike, Fila and Adidas, as well as four machines used for their production.
Djamil said the shoe factory employed eight people who produced 160 pairs of shoes a day. The counterfeited goods were sold not only in Bogor, but also in Sumatra and other places outside Java.
The shoes were sold at a price of between Rp 25,000 and Rp 40,000, while originals have a price tag of at least Rp 400,000. (sim)
