Shipbuilder to be modernized
SURABAYA, East Java (JP): PT Dok & Perkapalan Surabaya, a state-owned shipbuilding company based here, is investing Rp 3 billion (US$1.2 million) to upgrade its facilities to international standards.
Company president Sudarman Sellang told The Jakarta Post yesterday that the company has bought new software and hardware facilities to improve its designing and maintenance services.
He said as a result of the company's previous efforts to improve management, it expects to qualify for an ISO 9001 certificate next month.
Sudarman also said that his company recently accepted an order from Japan's Itochu Corp. through its subsidiary Topaz World Maritime S.A. Panama for the construction of a 6500 dead-weight ton (DWT) tanker worth US$12.7 million. The Japanese firm will lease the tanker to state oil company Pertamina. (15/jsk)
