Ship with 320 logs intercepted in Riau

PEKANBARU, Riau: Military personnel has intercepted a ship carrying 320 logs without the required legal documents. The logs were reportedly being transported to Malaysia, said chief of Bengkalis military command Lt. Col. Herindra.

After being apprehended on Tuesday, five seamen had been taken to a local police precinct for further questioning, while the ship has been docked in the nearest seaport as evidence, said Herindra.

The arrest is part of efforts by the military to help combat rampant illegal logging across the archipelago in a drive initiated by the government early this year, said Herindra. -- Antara
