Sheraton Surabaya raises aid funds

SURABAYA: The Sheraton Surabaya Hotel Towers has raised over Rp 176 million as of November as part of a worldwide program to help children.

The program, called Check Out for Children, is coordinated by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and encourages hotel guests to include a donation of US$1 or its equivalent in the local currency on their room bills.

The general manager of Sheraton Surabaya and Towers, Tim Steckbeck, handed over the money to UNICEF Indonesia representative Rolf Carriere last week.

The charity program, which involves Sheraton hotels around the world, has raised over $4.3 million. The money has been used to immunize children in developing countries against the six main childhood diseases: polio, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, tuberculosis and measles. (amd)
